Interpol in the metaverse: understand the proposal behind the virtual police environment

Within the metaverse, an infinite number of possibilities are available to users, and now traditional organizations are paying attention to this. The International Criminal Police Organization, Interpol, responsible for an international collaborative police network, has just launched an environment in the metaverse. The information was released on October 20th through the entity's own portal. With this, Interpol wants to offer immersive training and interactions between agents in the virtual world.

Proposal was presented during a General Assembly in India

The metaverse news was revealed during a surprise session of the 90th Interpol General Assembly in New Delhi, India. The idea behind the virtual environment is to bring users closer together and make the training flow more efficient with the use of technology. Interpol's virtual environment will offer agents an experience at the Interpol General Secretariat headquarters in Lyon, France.

The objective of Interpol's proposal is to combat crime in all environments

The Secretary General of Interpol, Jürgen Stock, comments that “for many, the metaverse seems to herald an abstract future, but the questions it raises are those that have always motivated Interpol – supporting our member countries in fighting crime and making the world, virtual or not, more safe for those who inhabit it.”

In addition to the virtual environment, Interpol also announced the creation of a Metaverse Expert Group, which aims to encourage security within the metaverse. 

Crimes in the virtual environment enter the radar of organizations

With their avatars, agents will be able to immerse themselves in forensic investigation and improve policing capabilities. Due to the growth of users of the metaverse, technology a list of possible potential crimes enters the radar of security agencies. Crimes against children, data theft, money laundering, financial fraud, forgery and sexual harassment were highlighted by Interpol itself as problems to be discussed with the metaverse.
