LG announces kid-focused metaverse platform in South Korea

One of the concerns behind the metaverse is how to preserve integrity and make environments safer for children and teenagers. In South Korea, LG Uplus, from Korean technology giant LG, announced the launch of the Kidstopia platform, a metaverse focused on educational content for children.

Focusing on younger children, the idea is to offer a variety of content that engages children's playfulness and helps them with their activities. There it will be possible to learn English, biology and interact with friends through avatars. Inside the platform Artificial intelligence will accompany children throughout their journey, indicating activities and monitoring user behavior. There will be resources to filter swear words and report inappropriate behavior.

The metaverse was created by a committee of 150 people, including pedagogues, parents and developers. This is to understand children’s demands and ensure their integrity on the internet. Parents will also have access to the metaverse when the platform launches.

The beta version will be launched in Korea later this month, but it is not yet known when the platform will be available to the general public, nor whether it will be expanded to other countries. The platform appears as a solution for child safety in the virtual environment. We recently reported on Newsverse that in the United Kingdom there have already been reports involving abuse against children in virtual reality environments.

With recent launches and a booming technology industry, South Korea is at the forefront of developing virtual reality platforms and tools. There, the public authorities intend to explore this new frontier. Check out:
