Medicine and metaverse: Newsverso interviews the first doctor in Brazil to carry out a consultation in an augmented reality environment

Doctor Heron Werner, obstetrician and gynecologist, in an interview with Newsverso, said that he has always been curious. For this reason, Werner stands out in academia with research that impresses with the boldness of its technological proposals for medicine. A pioneer in the use of 3D modeling, in 2011, for case analysis, and responsible for the first guided consultation in an immersive virtual environment in Brazil, the doctor believes that technology can be a strong ally of science. In the conversation, he narrates how a pregnant couple visited his office in the metaverse. Check out!

Newsverso had access to the office of the Biodesign Laboratory at PUC-Rio and DASA and showed what the environment in which the meetings are held is like:

Despite still being inaccessible to the Brazilian reality, the technology behind the metaverse facilitates the practice of medicine. This is because cases that are complex to explain can literally be drawn, modeled and exposed in the virtual environment.

In the conversation, the doctor, who is coordinator of the BIODESIGN laboratory from DASA and PUC-Rio, explained how technology can be used both for consultations and for exchanging information among the medical community.

Talking about pioneering in such a premature scenario, such as the metaverse, is difficult. But Werner was asked about the possibility of being a pivot in the use of virtual reality in Brazil for the practice of medicine. See what he says:
