Moraes defends regulation of artificial intelligence

The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), minister Alexandre de Moraes, defended, this Friday (18), the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) and social networks. Know more!

According to Moraes, the fairness of the next elections could be harmed without regulation, with the abuse of economic power and false information. The minister said that regulation must be “minimalist”, with basic guidelines.

“And then there is a need – and obviously this will knock on the doors of the National Congress, the Federal Supreme Court, the Judiciary as a whole – for regulation,” said Moraes. “We lost the opportunity to regulate this issue recently, we have to regulate. I am in favor of minimalist regulation.”

“I don't think we should, in the case of 'big techs', of social networks, specify everything. A minimalist, standard setting. Just as we also have to move forward in regulating artificial intelligence”, stated the judge.

The minister cited, as an example, that a person's voice can be altered, making a speech that was not made by them, and disseminating false information.

“Until you prove that it wasn't you... Then you combine artificial intelligence with 'big tech'... Not even your mother will believe that it wasn't you who said it. You cannot reverse this loss. So, there is a need for regulation”, added Moraes.
