Italy requests Robinho's extradition

The player was ultimately convicted in Italy of rape. The case happened in January 2013 in a nightclub in Milan.

The Italian court asked Brazil to extradite former striker Robinho and his friend Ricardo Falco, who were ultimately sentenced to nine years in prison for rape.

The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office, which had contacted the Italian government, has already been informed about the sending of the extradition request to the Brazilian authorities.

On January 19, 2022, the Supreme Court of Italy confirmed the conviction of Robinho and Falco to nine years in prison for sexual violence.

Remember the case

The case in which the two were sentenced is because of a rape against a young Albanian girl, who was 22 years old at the time. The crime took place on January 22, 2013, in a nightclub in Milan.

According to the prosecution, Robinho and his friends offered the victim drink until “he left her unconscious and unable to resist”.

The other four involved in the case were not tracked by the Italian courts and could not be prosecuted.

Robinho last played in 2020, when he played for a club in Türkiye. Two months later, he was announced by Santos but the club canceled the signing due to pressure from fans over the rape case.

Brazil and Italy may agree to have the former player serve time in a Brazilian penitentiary. Brazil prohibits the extradition of Brazilians.
