The capital of Ukraine suffered new air attacks this Monday (2), after a New Year weekend marked by Russian bombings that left at least five people dead. Iranian-made missiles and drones were launched against Kiev and other cities on Saturday (31), killing four people, while another was killed on Sunday (1) in the southern region of Zaporizhzhia.
This Monday, at the first signs of a new attack, the military administration in Kiev ordered residents to take shelter. The “air defense system is working. Balconies and windows of buildings suffered damage in the Desnyansi neighborhood,” said Seguei Popko, administrative officer.
“The Russians launched several waves of Shahed drones,” commented Oelski Kuleba, head of the military administrative region of Kiev, referring to Iranian-made drones.
“They targeted critical infrastructure installations,” he added. Kuleba.
The energy operator Ukrenergo reported that the light supply in Kiev “is more complicated” and that “there are power cuts”. Almost three hours later, the capital and the neighboring region suspended the air alert.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported an explosion on Monday in the Desnyanski neighborhood, where “a 19-year-old man was hospitalized.” Authorities later reported that the young man was injured by glass that fell from a building.
