O Curto News follows the drama of owners who lost their dogs after the animals ate a treat from Bassar Pet Food. The Ministry of Agriculture has already identified contamination in a supplier of raw materials to the industry, Tecno Clean Industrial LTDA. Pet deaths and hospitalizations are being investigated in 10 Brazilian states. Tutors organized virtually say there are more than 80 suspicious deaths.
Owners of dogs that died or were hospitalized after eating a snack from Bassar Pet Food continue to mobilize in the search for reparation and justice. Apparently, this could be the biggest case of animal poisoning in the history of Brazil.
“There are reports of hospitalization cases with the same characteristics throughout almost the entire country. There are already more than 80 cases cited in our WhatsApp Group, the largest concentration in São Paulo”, says Ana Paula Pascoaletto, marketing coordinator and one of the creators of the virtual group of victims of this tragedy.
Here we separate the stories of two puppies who were victims of poisoning. You can read and listen the tutors’ reports.

Catherine, the Chihuahua by lawyer Maria Luísa Trevisan, was one of the fatal victims of snack contamination. She went through two cardiac arrests, was intubated and had to be euthanized.
The family's other dog, Helena (the white one), had eaten the same treat, felt sick, but managed to resist. Malu says that the little animal has felt the absence of the “little one”. Malu's 2-year-old daughter is also missing the missing animal.
“Everything is very difficult. Catarina was young, healthy, my mother's companion, who is suffering a lot. They took my dog's life. It’s very difficult to accept.”
Otto, a healthy 10-year-old Maltese, was one of Ana Paula Pascoaletto's three dogs to eat the Bassar Food treat. The puppy – small – could not resist the effects of the poisoning and died after attempts by veterinarians to overcome the health problems. The other dogs, which weighed more than 20 kilos, were not as affected and are doing well. The case happened on March 31st.
At the beginning of the symptoms, Ana did not realize the relationship between the consumption of the dog treat and the kidney problems that appeared in Otto. “I thought I had neglected my dog’s health,” she says.
After seeing the news about supposedly intoxicated dogs in Belo Horizonte on social media, the woman from São Paulo realized that her dog had also been one of the victims of the consumption of contaminated dog snacks.
“My dog left 3 months ago and today I'm reliving the grief, several times a day, because with every story people share it's like I'm losing Otto all over again.”
