After invitation, Lula will participate in COP27

Egypt invited President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to the climate summit, COP27, which will open this week, despite still having almost two months to complete tome inauguration and replace Jair Bolsonaro, a climate change skeptic. This Tuesday (1), it was confirmed that Lula will participate in the meeting.

“I invite you to come to Egypt to participate in the COP27 global climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh,” said Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi, according to the presidential spokesman on Monday (31).

Al-Sissi hopes that Brazil will play a “positive and constructive” role at the summit, he added.

Lula accepted the invitation, according to information released by PT president, Gleisi Hoffmann.

More than 90 heads of state and government will attend the climate summit in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheij between 6 and 18 November.

Climate scientists and environmentalists have reiterated the enormous importance of the election results in Brazil, where most of the Amazon rainforest is located.
