Global warming could reach 7ºC, study shows

Nothing is so bad that it can't get worse. Unpublished research, called Global arming in the pipeline (“Global warming contracted”, in free translation), suggests that current concentrations of greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere can alone lead, in the long term, to a warming of 10ºC. Considering the compensating effects (such as, for example, the cooling action operated by aerosol particles in the atmosphere), the balance would be a planet at least 7ºC hotter.

O study (🇬🇧) was prepared under the guidance of American climatologist James Hansen – who was the first scientist to say, in 1988, that the global warming was already underway. The research carried out by him and 14 co-authors is in the preprint, awaiting review by other scientists for definitive publication.

The main discovery is related to an indicator called climate sensitivity in balance (ECS) on the planet. This is an estimate of how much the temperature on Earth would increase if the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere doubled.

In short, the team of scientists suggests that the planet's climate sensitivity is greater than previously imagined — which, given the current concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, produces a scenario of more heating and less time than expected.
