According to these NGOs, the COP has more sector lobbyists than the total number of representatives from ten of the countries most affected by climate change.
“There are large delegations from the oil and gas industry. Some are even part of national delegations, and there are governments from Northern countries that come to seek oil and gas opportunities in Africa, with large delegations,” Thuli Makama, from Oil Change International, told AFP.
“African countries are, in turn, represented by a handful of authorities from each country,” he added.

COP27 brought together around 45 thousand people, according to data from the Egyptian government. As in previous editions, COP27 is the stage for hundreds of meetings and seminars open to all participants, whose practically exclusive theme is the threat of climate change and the alternatives to face this phenomenon – in particular, the energy transition.
