BNDES wants to create a new fund for the preservation of the Amazon

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) is articulating the creation of a new fund aimed at preserving the Amazon and wants to encourage international financial institutions to deny credit to those who deforest in Brazil. According to the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper, the BNDES has already taken to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) the suggestion of blocking financial resources from environmental criminals, during a meeting held this month in Panama. 🌳

According to Folha's report: BNDES offered the tool of MapBiomes – which monitors deforestation in Brazil via satellite – by BID and suggested that it be applied to your credit analyses.

Himself BNDES started using the MapBiomes this year, in order to comply with a 2022 Central Bank rule, which prevents the granting of rural credit financing to properties suspected of destroying the forest.
