'Carta da Terra' analyzes Lula's participation in COP27

The Earth Charter, published this week by Earth News, analyzes Lula's participation in the 27th UN Climate Conference (COP27). Remember that, in addition to repeating the promeAs he did, including eliminating deforestation in all Brazilian biomes by 2030, the president-elect put an end to the false claim that environmental preservation and economic prosperity cannot coexist, by providing data from his past two terms. He also highlighted Lula's demand on rich countries to fulfill their commitments to help poor nations face the effects of climate change.

It is worth remembering that this specific point – the bottom of losses and damages – that’s what caused the delay in the end of COP27, due to a lack of consensus on the final agreement.

The publication highlights the meetings that the president-elect had in COP27, with North American, Chinese and European leaders. Furthermore, remember that Lula launched Brazil's candidacy to host COP30, in 2025, in one of the Amazon states.

🌳 Other highlights of the week:

  • Record deforestation: Deforestation in the Amazon broke a record for the month of October, since the beginning of the program's historical series Hold, from Inpe (National Institute for Space Research).
  • Cerrado Water: If the destruction of the Cerrado continues at the current rate, 34% of the biome's water volume could be lost by 2050.
  • Construction emissions: The increase in construction activities around the world increased the sector's carbon dioxide emissions to a record 10 gigatons last year.
