COP27: lack of agreements worries and becomes a topic on social media

This Friday (11) COP 27 - the United Nations climate conference - entered its 11th day, and continues to provoke engagement on social media. We had news about Alaa Abdel Fattah and also concerns about the lack of negotiations at the Summit. Follow the thread!

No agreements…

Simon Evans, from Carbon Brief, has created some colorful graphs to illustrate where the COP27 negotiations are going. The lack of agreements is clear.

One person who isn't very happy with this is the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres. On Twitter, he published his indignation.

“COP27 is scheduled to close in 24 hours – and negotiators remain divided on a number of key issues. I urge you to act – and act quickly. The world is watching and has a simple message: stay and deliver.”

Lula at COP27 is pop

The elected president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, continues to be one of the “attractions” of COP27.

According to family members of the activist arrested in Egypt, his health is deteriorating.

On Twitter, activist Alaa Abdel Fattah's sister said news of the visit was "disturbing."

“Alaa got a lot worse over the last two weeks, but at least they got to see him, and he really needed to see his family.”

The United Nations (UN) International Conference on Climate Change – COP27 – began last Sunday (6), in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. COP is the UN's major annual event whose objective is to discuss actions aimed at combating climate change.
