With an eye on global climate goals, startup will transform CO2 into polyester from 2024

The French startup Fairbrics will try to recover the carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted by the industrial sector and transform it into polyester coils, with the installation of a "factory piloto" in 2024. The rapid and mass development of innovative technologies, which seek to eliminate carbon, may be the only solution for us to achieve global climate goals. 🌎

“We use the CO2 industrial. The problem is not capturing it, but what we do afterwards. It’s expensive to get rid of and it’s currently not being used,” said the startup’s president, Benoît Illy, highlighting the benefits of his product compared to current fibers.

According to him, the impact of CO2 would be “70%” lower, highlighting that “clothing is a basic need. Polyester, being a synthetic fiber, can be produced very efficiently, using very little water and resources, compared to cotton,” he added.

The immediate objective of Fairbrics is to install a test factory in Belgium in mid-2024.

According to the startup, there are companies interested in the initiative and the Fairbrics would have an established partnership with brands such as H&M, Eagle e On-Running, who paid for part of the development of this technology.
