Ibama does not have money to pay water, electricity bills and other basic costs

As environmentalists and organizations have already been denouncing, Ibama - the federal government's environmental inspection body - is without resources to finance basic operations according to a letter from the organization's president, Eduardo Fortunato Bim. Without explanation, the Bolsonaro government blocked Ibama's budget, leaving it in an "extremely critical" situation. Meanwhile, the herd passes by... 😠

In an official statement, the president of the organization talks about teleworking

The scenario is so critical that the president of Ibama even decided to suspend in-person work in the units.

“Considering the possibility of holding the manager responsible for allowing expenses to occur even though he is aware of the unavailability of a compatible budget for this, questiono about the feasibility of suspending face-to-face work in the Agency's units, with the consequent suspension of services that generate ongoing expenses and the adoption of remote work/teleworking for all Ibama employees”, says Eduardo Fortunato Bim.

In the document, Bim asks that, “in view of this critical scenario faced by Ibama”, the Ministry of Economy and the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic reconsider the blocking of the budget initially foreseen.

“At this specific point, clear and objective guidance from this ministerial oversight body is necessary on the measures to be adopted if the situation is not immediately reversed.” In the accounts of the president of Ibama, the ministries indicated a blockage of R$90 million to the Ministry of the Environment (MMA).
