The Instagram profile curates various posts by indigenous people and profiles of influencers or organizations linked to the culture of indigenous peoples, and includes videos denouncing the destruction of illegal mining in the Amazon region, as well as information about festivities, traditions and customs. of different ethnicities.

In recent days the profile has intensified information about the Yanomami of Roraima, helping to reflect the abandoned situation that the villages find themselves in in the northern region of the country.

 The profile itself explains that the Instagram page was created and is managed by Renan Torres, Social Sciences (UENF) and edited by Carlos Siqueira, Social Sciences (UFBA).

“This project was created with the aim of publicizing Brazil's indigenous culture, which in many cases is poorly seen or little publicized, in order to awaken in citizens the recognition and appreciation of this culture, which is part of our identity”, informs the Publication.

The project emerged in 2013 with the Facebook page previously titled: Índios do Brasil – Cultura Nacional, but in 2015 the name was changed to: Povos Indígenas do Brasil, which continues to the present day.

Profile of the non-governmental organization with international support, focused on the indigenous peoples of Brazil and all those who originate from them. The objectives are:

  • identify, promote and resolve the demands of indigenous populations;
  • reunite relatives who were born in the city and who therefore do not know and/or do not participate in the customs of their people;
  • enable technical and higher education training and qualifications for indigenous youth;
  • inclusion in the job market (within the village itself) for indigenous people who have completed higher education;
  • promotion of postgraduate studies according to the cosmology of original peoples for indigenous people who have already graduated;
  • action in reviewing the judicial processes of detained indigenous people (first in Pará and in other states in due course).
