Marina Silva anticipates the Lula government's climate agenda at COP27

Waiting for Lula's arrival, the former Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva (Rede), announced this Thursday (10) at COP27, in Egypt, some points on the environmental agenda of the president-elect, who wants to make Brazil a leader in the fight against climate change. She met with US climate envoy John Kerry.

“Brazil is an important interlocutor for the Biden government and we must seek to expand this cooperation”, declared Marina to journalists.

In the climate field, he added, “we are obviously interested in cooperation of a technical-scientific nature” and in expanding international financial resources for the preservation of the Amazon forest, he added.

Marina Silva said that Luiz Inácio Lula da Siva's team, which travels to Egypt next week, wants “a global initiative that helps protect forests”.

And he highlighted that there is “a clear commitment” from Lula in this regard, “not only in the case of Brazil, but also in relation to Africa and Asian countries”, which must be accompanied by “resources for vulnerable countries”.

The United Nations (UN) International Conference on Climate Change – COP27 – began last Sunday (6), in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. COP is the UN's major annual event whose objective is to discuss actions aimed at combating climate change.
