Heat deaths could quadruple without action on climate change

A study released by the medical journal The Lancet warns of a possible dramatic increase in global deaths caused by heat if there is no significant action to contain the effects of global warming.

If global temperatures exceed 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, which is expected without significant interventions, it is estimated that 524,9 million people will suffer from food insecurity, increasing the risk of malnutrition on a global scale.

The impacts of climate change directly influence health, increasing the frequency of dangerous temperatures, especially in the United States. The study highlights four critical areas of risk: rising temperatures threatening health, extreme weather events causing food insecurity, pressure on healthcare systems and the spread of potentially fatal diseases.

According to report, delays in climate-related actions put the health and survival of billions of people in the world at risk today.
