World is moving “in the wrong way” in combating the climate crisis, says Guterres

The Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, stated that the world is still "moving in the wrong way" to combat the climate crisis, considering the increase in carbon emissions. He spoke at a press conference held this Monday (19).

“We made important progress at COP15, finally creating perspectives focusing on nature”, praised Guterres, withpromehaving to “continue working” for a community climate pact between several countries. “I call on all global leaders to participate in this movement. Guterres also commented on other challenges expected for 2023, mainly mentioning high food prices and limited access to fertilizers. According to the secretary-general, if problems in the fertilizer supply chain are not resolved, there will possibly be food shortages in 2023.

The secretary-general also spoke about the need for continued action on the humanitarian crises in Congo and Yemen, the war in Ukraine and other issues affecting several countries – such as the situation in Peru, where he considers it essential to hold early elections to stabilize the country. .
