UN recognizes that a healthy environment is a human right

A approval of the resolution, received 161 votes in favor and eight abstentions: Belarus, China, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Syria (UN News).  

The United Nations ruling imposes an obligation on countries to promote, protect and fulfill this right.

This historic resolution – agreed by the only UN forum with representation from all 193 Member States – has the potential to bring about real change.

Member States will now have to decide whether to truly respect and defend this human right, taking measures to deal with today's multiple planetary crises or, as almost always happens, they will delay its implementation (UNDP).
