For Nature magazine, there is only one choice in Brazil’s election – for the country and the world

The scientific magazine Nature published, this Tuesday (25), an editorial entitled "There is only one choice in Brazil's election – for the country and the world". In the publication, he stated that Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) record is "eye-popping" and highlighted the attitudes and omissions of the Bolsonaro government, which caused - among many other tragedies and setbacks - environmental devastation and 685 thousand deaths from covid- 19. According to Nature, a possible re-election of Bolsonaro could cause "irreparable damage" to Brazil.

O Nature editorial (*) attributed the devastation of the environment, as well as a disregard for the rights of indigenous peoples, to Bolsonarist management. He also highlighted the denialism of Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) government in combating the Covid-19 pandemic – which “undermined” vaccine programs – comparing him to the former North American president, Donald Trump.

According to the publication – in contrast – when it was in power, the Workers' Party (PT) made large investments in science and innovation, in addition to strengthening environmental protections and expanding educational opportunities. And he highlighted that Lula (PT), if elected, promeyour achieving 'net zero' deforestation and protecting indigenous lands.

In the end, he considers that no political leader comes close to being perfect, but that “Brazilian voters have a valuable opportunity to start rebuilding what Bolsonaro overthrew”.
