For the climate, Democratic leader of the House of Representatives reaches out to Republicans

The President of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, reached out to the Republicans, this Thursday (10), who could gain control of this legislative body. The nod to political opponents is important so that the North American Legislative House can join forces in the fight against climate change.

“Win or lose, we would like to have an alliance to save the planet,” Pelosi, who leads a Democratic delegation to the UN climate conference (COP27), told the press.

“I think what we saw in this election was young people voting on this issue, which surprised everyone, but not us,” he added.

Some Republicans are skeptical of the idea of climate change. “We have to leave this behind,” asked Pelosi, in a conversation with experts.

The leader of the current Democratic majority expressed her satisfaction with the approval, in August, of the Inflation Reduction Act, with a budget of US$370 billion, which includes a large investment in renewable energy.

No Republican voted in favor of the law, as they believe it does not reduce inflation or guarantee energy security in the United States.

If Republicans confirm their control of the House, committees, such as the Climate Crisis, created by Democrats, could be “eliminated”, explained Kahty Cantor, the congressman who presides over this body.

“They were not partners to face the climate crisis, and this is inexplicable, because the great scientists are telling us that we are running out of time”, stressed Cantor.
