One in every 5 people does not have access to healthy food in Latin America and the Caribbean, warns UN

More than 131 million people in Latin America and the Caribbean were unable to access healthy food in 2020, the cost of which in the region is the highest in the world, warned the United Nations (UN) in a report presented this Wednesday- fair (18), in Chile. Know more!

According to the “Regional Panorama of Food and Nutritional Security“, prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and four other UN agencies, 22,5% of the population is unable to buy and/or consume foods such as vegetables, fruits, grains and cereals. 🍎

No Brazil, almost 30% of the inhabitants fall into some level of food insecurity, that is, they do not have continuous access to food or go at least a day without eating. The most serious and worrying stage is the hunger, which, according to the publication, affects almost 8,6 million people in the country. 😔

🍽️ Conceptually, the hunger, according to the FAO, it is the same as malnutrition: when habitual food consumption is uncertain and insufficient to guarantee a normal, active and healthy life.
