In an unprecedented partnership, Greenpeace Brasil and Porta dos Fundos come together to mark the launch of the “Voto Sem Vacilo” campaign.

Spearheaded by the environmental organization, the new campaign aims to raise awareness among young people about the importance of voting conscientiously for candidates who present concrete proposals for preserving the environment.

In addition to the launch video, a guide with directions on how to identify candidates withpromeissues related to the environmental agenda is available for free access.

“Today’s youth have already understood that the change to stop the climate crisis needs to happen now, and not in 50 years. Therefore, we want to provide reliable information so that you have practical tools for informed voting, which is nothing more than choosing representatives who defend life, democracy and the environment. What is at stake is our future, the future of our sons and daughters and the world as we know it”, said Mariana Mota, Public Policy coordinator at Greenpeace Brazil.

🌳 Deforestation in the Amazon grows 81% in August

Last month, the National Institute of Space Research (INPE) registered alerts for 1.661,02 km² deforested in the Amazon – an increase of 81% compared to the same period last year – when destruction alerts were generated for 918 km² of forests.

The number recorded in August 2022 is the second highest in INPE's historical series, almost tied with 2019, when 1.714 km² of destruction were recorded. The information was updated this Friday (9).

The area lost last month is larger than the city of São Paulo (1.512 km²).

🔥 California wildfire doubles in size

A wildfire on the outskirts of Los Angeles doubled in size in less than 24 hours, firefighters said on Thursday (8), as the western United States experienced another day of suffocating heat.

Thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate in the face of the growing fire, which has now spread to 7.700 hectares.

💧 Guterres visits Pakistan

The UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, started this Friday (9) a two-day visit to Pakistan, whose authorities called for help for millions of people affected by catastrophic floods.

One third of the country, equivalent to the size of the territory of the United Kingdom, is flooded after an intense season of monsoon rains that left almost 1.400 dead and caused extensive material damage.

Guterres said he hoped that his visit would encourage the international community to mobilize better in favor of Pakistan, a country that was very generous in the past offering refuge to millions of Afghan refugees during decades of war in that neighboring country, he recalled.
