Prince Harry's biography is popular and sold an impressive number of copies in a single day

Prince Harry's memoir, which contains shocking revelations about the British royal family, got off to a good start with almost 1,5 million copies sold on its first day, its publisher said on Thursday.

Sales in the United Kingdom, United States and Canada, including all formats (physical book, digital and audio) of 'Spare' (“What remains” in Portuguese) totaled 1,4 million copies, a record number, says Penguin Random House. The publisher did not provide figures for the other 15 languages in which the book, on sale since Tuesday (10), was published.

Buckingham Palace has not commented on the book's revelations, but the British press has reported, citing anonymous royal sources, that the Windsors are unhappy.

Despite the book's good sales, the prince's popularity is at an all-time low in the United Kingdom, where many consider him a spoiled immature who wants the benefits of royalty without its drawbacks.

  • Just 24% of Brits have a favorable opinion of the Duke of Sussex, according to a new YouGov poll carried out following the publication of his memoir.
  • Only 21% of Brits believe that Harry's main motivation for publishing this book is to give his version of events, as he claims, while 41% believe it is to make money.
