Wine recommendation apps are increasingly incorporating AI, such as market leader Vivino. The difference with the Sippd – launched in the United States in 2021 – is that it embraced technology from the beginning.
ADVERTISING
New users start by responding to a questiononline wine diary, which analyzes your preferences, such as color, body, acidity, flavor, sweetness and price.
Then, The app’s AI software does the “heavy lifting”, generating thousands of personal wine recommendations that he calls “flavor matches.” These are ranked in percentage terms, with scores out of 100% aiming to be a perfect match.
You can then start scanning wine lists or labels with your phone's camera, and Sippd will provide you with your flavor match scores for each bottle.
ADVERTISING
Sippd continues to learn when the user informs the app about their wine purchases. The goal is for the app's individualized recommendations to be increasingly accurate.
Currently only available in the US, Sippd has 100 users and is free. The company makes money by inviting people to buy recommended wines directly through the app for delivery.
