O Discord It offers voice, text and video chat and is widely used by gamers to communicate with friends and other users when playing online. The application, however, has been used by criminals to circulate violent content.

Manager of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Safernet, Guilherme Alves explains that the platform works in a similar way to WhatsApp.
“It's an app like WhatsApp, where you have the possibility of entering different chat rooms with friends or people you don't know. It has been where violent communities have been emerging.”
On its website, Discord maintains an extensive list of community guidelines. Updated in February 2023, the standards include: not encourage, coordinate or engage in harassing situations and not use hate speech or engage in other hateful conduct.

According to the platform, in case of violation of the guidelines, the application can act by “removing content, suspending or removing the accounts and/or servers responsible, in addition to possible reports to the police authorities”.
