The man's arrest marks one of the first arrests under China's new guidelines, which aim to curb the spread of misinformation online. According to authorities, the Chinese man used ChatGPT to rewrite existing news articles and then post them online to earn money through internet traffic.
According to an investigation by the South China Morning Post, the false news was viewed more than 15 thousand times.
China tries to regularize AI
Although China has banned the use of ChatGPT, the man used a VPN network to circumvent the system and create fake content and publish it on a website owned by Baidu.
