United Kingdom invests R$629 million in artificial intelligence

The UK government has announced a strategic investment of £100 million in a task force to develop foundational models for artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative, announced last Monday (629) on the British government portal, aims to ensure that the country remains globally competitive in one of the most crucial technologies in the world.

The Foundation Model Task Force will focus on developing safe and reliable models for use across the economy.

The task force is expected to have a significant impact on health and education, allowing it to accelerate diagnostics, drug discovery and development. The team will also work to make the UK a world leader in foundation models. Another crucial issue is promoting AI safety as a global standard.

According to surveys carried out by the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, the widespread adoption of AI systems could triple national productivity growth rates, highlighting the potential impact of the initiative.

It is predicted by the Department's study that global GDP could increase by 7% in ten years with the adoption of AI.

The initiative is part of Science and Technology Structure launched by the UK government last month, which aims to make the country a “superpower” in innovation and technology by 2030. The government has set out plans to invest more than £370 million to support research and new technologies.

The UK Prime Minister said that “Harnessing the potential of AI offers huge opportunities to grow our economy, create better paid jobs and build a better future through advances in health and safety.”
