Twitter lays off another 200 employees, says NYT

Twitter laid off at least 200 employees, 10% of its workforce, The New York Times found. The cuts follow the wave of layoffs at giant technology companies in the United States. This new round of layoffs includes product managers, "big data" specialists and engineers working on machine learning and platform reliability, the American newspaper detailed on Sunday (26).

Twitter did not immediately confirm the news. But a figure from the company, who became famous on social media, ended up revealing the layoffs:

“The worst thing anyone could think of seeing me go all in on Twitter 2.0 is that my optimism or hard work was a mistake,” he tweeted.

“Those who bully & mock are necessarily on the sidelines and not in the arena. I am deeply proud of the team for building amidst so much noise & chaos,” she added.

Dismissal after dedication

Esther Crawford, responsible for product development at the social network and head of the company's new authenticity verification program, Twitter Blue, was a big supporter of Musk and the company was one of those fired, according to the Times.

Crawford was among the few executives who worked at Twitter before it was acquired by the mogul Elon Musk, in October, and that they had not resigned or been fired.

And she became famous for retweeting a photo of her in a sleeping bag at work, remember the controversy?

Other giants in the technology sector, including Amazon, Alphabet (parent company of Google) and Meta (Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp), announced thousands of layoffs in the last year.
