Kuwaiti vehicle presents first virtual news presenter created with AI

In Kuwait, a news website launched its first virtual television presenter, created with Artificial Intelligence (AI). The idea is that "Fedha" will lead a news program in this Gulf country. Dressed in a white t-shirt and a black coat, the virtual presenter appeared for the first time on Saturday on the Kuwait News Twitter account, as part of a project still in the testing phase.

“I am Fedha, the first Kuwaiti presenter working with Artificial Intelligence at Kuwait News. What type of news do you prefer? We listen to your opinions,” said the presenter in classical Arabic. The website, affiliated with the Kuwait Times, is testing the potential of AI to propose “new and innovative content”, explained editor-in-chief, Abdulá Boftain, to AFP.

The physical appearance of the virtual presenter, blonde with light eyes, reflects, according to Boftain, the diversity of the population of the rich oil country, made up of Kuwaitis and expatriates. “Fedha represents the whole world,” she said.

The editor-in-chief believes that, in the future, the presenter could adopt a Kuwaiti accent and present a newscast on the Kuwait News Twitter account, which has more than 1,2 million followers. During the Fedha's presentation, in a video lasting just over ten seconds, the presenter generated diverse reactions in a group of journalists.

“Our jobs are at risk. Will Fedha and her colleagues be our replacements in the near future?” questionor one of them. Kuwait News hopes the AI ​​initiative will provide a new way of presenting news to the country's viewers.
