Venice canals begin to dry up due to lack of rain

In Italy, the weeks drag on with a worryingly dry winter, reminiscent of last summer. According to experts, the Alps are receiving less than half their normal snowfall.

In the past, Venice received warnings about flooding, but this year the tides are extremely low and make it impossible for water taxis and ambulances to navigate in some parts of its famous postcard.

These problems are being caused by the lack of rain, high pressure system, full moon and sea currents.

The environmental group Legambiente stated on Monday (20) that Italy's rivers and lakes are suffering from a lack of water, especially those in the northern region of the country.

In July 2022, the country suffered the worst drought in 70 years and declared a state of emergency.
