Much is said about Burnout, but not everyone knows what it is. The syndrome is work-related, and in January this year it joined the World Health Organization (WHO) list of diseases.

How so?
According to the WHO, Burnout is “a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic stress in the workplace that has not been successfully managed”. Wow! 😲
For the WHO, the disease is linked only stresses caused by the workplace and should not be used to describe any other area of life.
What are the symptoms?
The Organization classifies three:
- feelings of exhaustion or energy exhaustion
- increased mental distance from work, or feelings of negativity or cynicism toward work
- a feeling of ineffectiveness and lack of accomplishment
The site USA Today* has put together some tips to help create a healthier work routine, but remember: it's important to be aware of the symptoms and, if they appear, seek out a specialist!

- Food: studies show that a healthier diet contributes to a lower chance of burnout, in addition to contributing to mental health as a whole.
- Sleep: sleep well! Serious research shows that people who sleep less than eight hours a day are more likely to be discouraged, irritated and stressed. If your insomnia is caused by work stress, be careful.
- Physical Exercise: is a form of self-care that stimulates well-being and combats stress, according to experts. Some jobs collaborate with more sedentary routines.
- Yoga & meditation: practices are also linked to well-being and self-knowledge, as they require attention, calm and focus on breathing.
- Self-care in general: in addition to those listed, it is important to relieve everyday stress with massages and long baths, or any other ritual that is good for you and can help you regain balance.
