According to data from the country's Ministry of Health, only 8% of adults smoke daily, a record drop in smoking. On the other hand, electronic cigarette users grew 2,1% from 2021 to 2022.
“Thousands of people will live longer, healthier lives and the health care system will be $5 billion better off by not having to treat the diseases caused by smoking, such as many types of cancer, heart attacks, strokes and amputations,” said Ayesha Verrall, New Zealand Minister of Health.
