What is the metaverse?

You may have already read, heard, or seen this term somewhere. But do you know what it means? And more: do you know how to be part of this new reality? The metaverse is part of the new era of the internet in the world. Its main proposal is to create digital environments - as if they were worlds - that are different and accessible to all web users around the planet. In short, with just a device connected to the internet, you can immerse yourself in a realistic and interactive environment, parallel to real life. The idea is that you can have fun, work, study and even buy and sell in the metaverse.

The term became popular after Mark Zuckerberg bet all his chips on a new moment on the internet

Understand in this video produced by AFP how the metaverse works.

O metaverse it is a set of virtual realities, with different locations, that would not cease to exist even after you “take a break from it”. In other words, you can go in there, decide to leave and, upon returning, you will realize that the world continued to be active, updating itself over time, based on a new reality.

Although the term was first mentioned in the 1990s, in a book called Snow crash, by Neal Stephenson, only in recent years has the new technological dimension gained proportion and popularity.

Thanks to simulated virtual reality games and the integration of social networks into socializable virtual environments, the idea stopped seeming like something utopian and became possible.

Tech giants are in the race for the metaverse

It seems that at some point, we will all be part of this new environment. At least that's the technology giants' bet. Companies like Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia are expanding rapidly across the metaverse. But certainly the biggest enthusiast of this new dimension is Mark Zuckerberg.
