Because it's important

Technology companies are looking for an alternative source for the scarce chips needed for artificial intelligence.

Intel said its new Gaudi 3 chip was able to train large language-specific models 50% faster than Nvidia's previous-generation H100 processor.

It is also capable of calculating generative AI responses, a process called inference, faster than the H100 chips for some of the models Intel has tested.

The Gaudi 3 chip will be available to server builders like Supermicro and Hewlett Packard Enterprise in the second quarter of this year.
