Bolsonaro doubles down on fakes, Lula gives up red: the candidates' Twitter

The candidates for the presidency of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), carried out campaign activities in the South and Southeast regions of the country this Tuesday (11). See the positions of the candidates and their campaigns that were highlighted today.

Jair Bolsonaro (PL)

Re-election candidate Jair Messias Bolsonaro (PL) went to Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul this Tuesday (11) fulfill the campaign agenda. On Twitter, as well as on the in-person platform, the president once again criticized what he calls “gender ideology” and repudiated PT governments and the legalization of marijuana.

See other statements from the candidate:

  • In the Rio Grande do Sul city of Pelotas, Bolsonaro returned to his coup tone about fraud at the polls if he is not victorious in the second round. At the end of the speech, he called on voters to disregard the electoral law:

“We are all suspicious. How can that guy [Lula] have so many votes if the people are not on his side? On the 30th, in green and yellow, we will vote. And more than that: we will remain in the region of the polling station until the results are determined,” said Bolsonaro.

  • Bolsonaro published a thread on Twitter calling the PT opponent an “organized crime candidate” and suggesting that the appointments for his eventual government would be made to “hostages” of a corrupt scheme.
A Public Agency identified that, in this second round, Bolsonaro's campaign is betting especially on fake news that seek to link Lula to criminal factions on the social networks.
  • To the business community and investors, he highlighted positive actions by the federal government in the field of economics. He cited the pension reform and the start-up framework, basic sanitation and the 'Economic Freedom Law'. Also for followers of Twitter, compared data on business openings of his government and the PT's management (in which there is an item 'misconduct…').
  • To voters who were 22 in the first round, he asked them to try to “convince a relative, a mistaken friend” to turn into votes. “Now let’s move on to voting, which will be faster, taking our elderly people to the election sessions”, she invited.

Luis Inacio Lula da Silva (PT)

Candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) was in Rio de Janeiro campaigning this Tuesday (11), where he once again said that he intends to resume the Minha Casa, Minha Vida Program and invest in programs in the cultural sector and social inclusion.

But there was something different there, on top of the sound car: neither Lula, nor anyone who accompanied him, wore red.

The suggestion for change – or 'brand repositioning' – came from senator Simone Tebet (MDB). Janja, politicians and the candidate wore white t-shirts, new orientation to demonstrate order by "love and peace" and lower the rejection associated with the party.

Lula also distributed to Twitter followers links and paths to information on how to dialogue with voters who do not yet support you.
