The situation led to the preventive closure of the walkway that gives access to the Devil's Throat, a set of waterfalls that make up the park's main attraction. Due to the increase in the flow of the Iguaçu River, walkways on the Argentine side had already been closed yesterday.
Wemerson Augusto highlighted that this phenomenon is not common in the month of October. The Civil Defense of Paraná reported today that 24 municipalities were affected by “severe events”, with floods that left more than 1.200 people homeless and almost 400 homes damaged.
The flow recorded this Wednesday at the Falls is the highest since June 2014, when 47 million liters of water per second were reported.
