Founded by brothers Fernando and Humberto in 1984, the Campana atelier became internationally recognized for its unusual pieces. One of the icons of the studio's creation is the Red armchair. Created in 1999, the piece was the first to boost the work of the Campana brothers abroad, bringing an innovative method of “filling” construction with braided rope. It also marks the transition from the production of unique pieces to larger-scale ones, by the Italian company Edra.

The Campana brothers' pieces are part of the permanent collections of renowned cultural institutions such as Center Pompidou and Musée Des Arts Décoratifs, in Paris, MoMa, in New York, Museum of Modern Art in São Paulo and Vitra Design Museum, in Weil am Rhein. In 2013, they were listed by Forbes magazine among the 100 most influential Brazilian personalities.

In 2009, the brothers created the Campana Institute to preserve the collection for future generations and “promote design as a tool for social transformation through cultural and educational programs”.
