2022 already has the worst mark in the series of deforestation alerts in the Amazon, reveals Inpe

With more than two months left until the end of the year, the country has already registered 9.277 km² of deforestation alerts, from January until October 21st, according to data released this Friday (28th) by the Institute for Space Research (Inpe). This is the worst mark in the annual historical series of Deter, the institute's Real-Time Deforestation Detection system.

The index takes into account the so-called calendar year, that is, the total period from January to December. The mark announced this Friday (28) has already surpassed the entire year of 2019 – the worst rate so far – when deforestation alerts took a leap and reached up to 9.178 km².
