Even though it generates around R$2 trillion annually for Brazil, only 1% of Brazilians know perfectly the meaning of the term.

But after all, what is the economy of the sea?

The economy of the sea encompasses the use and exploration of the ocean and includes traditional activities such as fishing; oil extraction; cruise and coastal tourism; maritime transport of cargo and passengers; port facilities; among many others.

Another concept of vital importance in this topic is that of blue economy. This, in turn, is a sustainable sea economy. Result of a balance between economic activities and the capacity of oceanic ecosystems to support such practices, remaining healthy. Therefore, the blue economy aims to utilize but also protect the ocean.
