US envoy arrives in Brazil to discuss climate agenda

John Kerry, special advisor to the President of the United States (USA) for Climate, arrived in Brasília this Sunday (26), to discuss with the Lula government the issue of climate and the environment as a priority in the bilateral relationship between the countries. According to the US embassy in Brazil, the visit “will continue the Brazil-US Climate Change Working Group that Presidents Joe Biden and Lula relaunched on February 10, in Washington.

John Kerry is expected to meet with Minister Marina Silva, and with the Vice President and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin, in a meeting this Monday morning (27), at the Itamaraty Palace, in Brasilia.

The meeting's agenda on collaboration between countries in mitigating climate change includes discussions on combating and reversing deforestation, accelerating the transition to clean energy and strengthening the bioeconomy and sustainability.

The North American advisor who arrived in Brazil on Sunday (26) will remain in the country until Tuesday (28) and will have meetings with representatives of the National Congress and civil society leaders.
