The young women were accused of promoting Christianity and having relationships with media outlets opposed to the Iranian government, according to the NGO Hengaw.

A third woman, who faces the same charges, is also detained but has not yet had a sentence handed down.
The Iranian court confirmed to the AFP agency the conviction for “spreading corruption on Earth”. This is the most serious charge in the Iranian penal code.
