Measures of intention x counted votes

According to researchers interviewed by Estadão, there is no single explanation for the divergences between voting intention polls published up until the eve of the first round and the results determined on Sunday (2).

There is, until then, different hypotheses presented. They include statistical issues, survey methodologies and changes in voter behavior. According to the directors of Datafolha, Luciana Chong, and Ipec, Márcia Cavallari, top institutes of the country's research, the president's final push came from useful vote for Bolsonarism in the final stretch of the first round.

Alignment with Bolsonaro

Minister Anderson Torres' move took place after President Bolsonaro said that the result of the first round of elections “demoralized” the institutes who carry out electoral research, as he received 43,2% of valid votes and poll results released before the election showed a voting intention of 37%.
