Adidas splits with Kanye West after anti-Semitic comments

German sports equipment company Adidas has ended its collaboration with American rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, following his anti-Semitic comments in recent weeks. Adidas claimed that it does not tolerate anti-Semitism or any hate speech.

The company said in a statement that, after an in-depth analysis, it made the decision to “immediately terminate the collaboration with Ye.” “Adidas does not tolerate anti-Semitism or any other form of hate speech,” he added.

The company said earlier this month that it was reviewing its relationship with West after he appeared at a fashion show in Paris wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with “White Lives Matter.”

The phrase is a reaction by far-right and white supremacist groups in the United States to the “Black Lives Matter” movement, which protests against racism.

Afterwards, West was banned from Twitter and Instagram for posting a threatening message against the Jewish community.

Adidas highlighted that it is “the sole owner of all design rights for existing products (…) within the scope of the association”, anticipating a possible legal battle.
