Presidential candidates expand their presence on social media to attract audiences and win votes

With 9 days to go before the elections, social media is buzzing. O Curto News compiled the follower base of the four best-placed candidates for President of the Republic in the polls. Furthermore, it analyzed the engagement rate on Instagram - the largest social network among them.

There is no denying it: the world is living in an era of opinions formed through social networks. Voters can follow candidates' daily lives, send questions and get information much faster compared to years ago. Easy, right?! That's why, nowadays, strengthening the digital follower base is a priority for any candidate.

Analyzing the four candidates for the Presidência da República best placed in research, everyone has accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube – the top five social networks from the moment.

Check audience data by social network Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Jair Bolsonaro, Ciro Gomes e Simon Tebet. The information was collected this Friday, September 23rd.

O Curto News also carried out an engagement survey among these four presidential candidates through the website Social Blade, which analyzes data from the largest social networks in the world. Considering the platform with the largest audience of all, the Instagram, Lula is the candidate with the highest engagement (3,18%). This calculation takes into account interactions in a profile's publications – in this case, likes, comments, shares and saves.

Tebet has the second highest rate, with 2,76% engagement. Bolsonaro and Ciro appear next, with 2,19% and 0,85%, respectively. They publish, on average, between 4 and 6 posts per day on the Instagram feed – with the exception of Ciro, who made more than 20 posts in the same day on the social network. 

A BBC London shared, on Instagram, a comparison between the two most popular presidential candidates on social media. The video in English says that although Bolsonaro has more followers, Lula manages to engage more. And that, on TikTok, the PT member is considered a phenomenon, with dizzying growth in the first week he joined the Chinese platform.
