Qatar will organize the 2023 Asian Cup in football

Qatar, host of the 2022 World Cup, which will take place from November 20 to December 18, will also organize the 2023 Asian Cup. The decision was taken after China announced its withdrawal in May due to Covid-19, reported this Monday (17) the Asian Football Confederation.

“The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) executive committee has confirmed the Qatar Football Federation (QFA) as the host association for the 2023 Asian Football Cup,” the Malaysia-based body announced in a statement.

AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said Qatar is ready to host the event despite little time to prepare as the World Cup begins next month.

The AFC chief praised Qatar’s “existing infrastructure and unparalleled hosting capacity”. “Qatar’s ability and track record in hosting major international sporting events and its meticulous attention to detail are greatly admired around the world,” he said.

The AFC also said that its executive committee had selected India and Saudi Arabia as candidates for the 2027 edition. The Asian Cup is held every four years. Qatar won the last edition, in 2019, organized in the United Arab Emirates.
