CBF creates 1st anti-racist and anti-discrimination action in football

The fight against racism and violence is, for the first time, the theme of a campaign that mobilized sports entities such as CBF, Conmebol and FIFA. The action may include reducing the points of teams that are involved in incidents of racism, homophobia, machismo, among other crimes.

Records of racism, homophobia, xenophobia and machismo in sport increased again after the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, according to the Observatory of Racial Discrimination in Football. To debate the problem, this Wednesday (24), the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) hosted the 1st edition of the Seminar on Combating Racism and Violence in Football. The event took place in Rio de Janeiro.

The artist Gilbeto Gil opened the debate and called for a “broad mobilization” to face discrimination, which, according to him, is a “civic duty". (Bahia News)

At the event, the president of the Federal Senate, Rodrigo Pachedo, condemned undemocratic acts in sport and reinforced that racial crimes must be repelled by society.

“Enough with prejudice. I want strict punishment. I will not impose this with the stroke of a pen, I am democratic and will take the topic to be discussed in the technical councils. But, from now on, I defend that the club that has fans involved in acts of racism lose at least one point in the respective competitions”, said Ednaldo at the opening of the seminar.

In 2021 alone, 158 cases of discrimination were recorded in Brazilian sport, according to the Observatory.
