World Cup will have an exclusively female refereeing team for the first time in history

Frenchwoman Stéphanie Frappart will be the referee for the clash between Germany and Costa Rica for the World Cup in Qatar on Thursday (1st), a match that counts for a place in the round of XNUMX. Stéphanie, who was already the first woman to officiate in the French men's football league and the UEFA Champions League, will lead an all-female refereeing team, which will include Brazilian Neuza Back and Mexican Karen Díaz.

“A World Cup is the pinnacle, the biggest competition in the world. I have always campaigned for us to be considered for our abilities and not necessarily for our gender. If women have qualities, they should also receive opportunities. Now it is not a surprise to see women refereeing men, regardless of continent or country,” said Stéphanie Frappart in September, after being appointed to the refereeing body. The Frenchwoman has been a referee since she was 13 years old.

Frappart is also not afraid of its debut in Catar, country questionadvocated for women's rights, where she assured that she was “always well received”.

“This is also a strong signal from (sports) entities that there are women in this country,” he declared. “I’m not a feminist spokesperson, but I can help things. I know we often play a role, especially in sports.”
