Curto on Hype: Legal abortion, arrest of former minister and Beyoncé’s return

The topic on social media this week was the 11-year-old child who became pregnant after being raped. The case involving Luva de Pedreiro, the arrest of Milton Ribeiro and Beyoncé's new song, full of meanings, are other highlights.

If there was one issue that dominated social media this week, it was the case of an 11-year-old child who became pregnant after being raped. The story took on gigantic proportions with the publication of a report from The Intercept containing videos that show a judge inducing the girl to give up terminating the pregnancy.

After the repercussions, the girl from Santa Catarina managed to exercise her right to have an abortion – which is allowed in Brazil in cases of sexual violence. The Federal Public Ministry reported that the procedure was carried out on Wednesday (22).

The issue raised the debate about the difficulty in accessing legal abortion for Brazilian women.

President Jair Bolsonaro spoke out against the termination of pregnancy. Other social media users also shared the same opinion.

On the political scene, the spotlight turned to Milton Ribeiro. The former Minister of Education was arrested on Wednesday (22) during the Federal Police's Paid Access operation. The investigations are investigating whether there was influence peddling, malfeasance and corruption in the release of funds from the National Education Development Fund (FNDE), which is linked to the MEC. Ribeiro left prison on Thursday.

Bolsonaro's statement about putting “the fire on his face” for the former minister became a meme on social media after his arrest.

Goals scored on a dirt field and celebrated with the sound of “receive!”. This scenario can be easily recognized by football fans who consume sports content on social media. The catchphrase is by Iran Ferreira, better known as Mason's Glove

The relationship between the digital influencer and his manager, Allan Jesus, has been controversial for months. This week, the names were highlighted again after the column by Leo Dias, from Metrópoles, reporting that Iran had only two bank accounts with a turnover of R$7,5. The value differs from the large contracts that the internet phenomenon has signed – with Amazon alone, the value was close to R$1 million.

The internet celebrated Beyoncé's return to music. “Break My Soul” came out on Tuesday (21) with lyrics that speak to the recent wave of resignations in several countries around the world. The hit promete has become an anthem among young people who seek better working conditions and are concerned about mental health.
